To Love-Ru Vol. 12

VOL. 12 – MAIDEN-ESQUE BOY
Trouble 98 – Lala’s Younger Sisters (or Trouble Quest 6 or Trouble Quest Final)

The wrap-up chapter for the story arc, not really necessary (all that action and mysterious has been done and finished already) but there is still a lot of great moments (especially with Yami). Just a note that in the later chapters, Lala’s sisters, particularly Nana, look a bit different than their initial appearance

We learn the motives of the two sisters and why they did what they did, nothing too terribly interesting, but it is still worth reading just to finish the chapter off.

Trouble 99 – The Proportion That Makes up the Heart

A chapter in which Rito reflects on his confession back in chapter 97, it may be a bit boring but I thought it was alright. The scene with Ren/Run and the Principal was hilarious, as well as the last scene with Rito and Lala.

Trouble 100 – Toraburu x Trouble x To Love-Ru

The chapter title is a play on the pronunciation of the manga title, as all of them are supposed to be pronounced the same way, that is, “Trouble”. A bit of a weird chapter at first, it is the start of another story arc, this time it is three chapters long. We finally get to the point at the end when Rito turns… into a girl?!

Trouble 101 – Maiden-esque Boy

We get to see the adventures of the boy turned girl Rito, and it’s quite funny. Some of the dialogue is pretty good, particularly when Rito sees Ren and saying that he now understood his feelings.

Another part is the (last) appearance of Motemitsu, doing what he does best, proposing and then instantly getting rejected (in this case, by Rito). The chapter ends when he mysteriously gets helped by Saki.

Trouble 102 – Sexual Conversion!

As the title suggests, this is the chapter where Rito reverts back to being a boy. Amazingly, Saki isn’t as bad as she was put forward in the past, helping out Rito (or should I say, Riko, as that’s the name of Rito’s alternate ‘form’).

Overall though, this story arc is pretty boring and nothing much really happens, only the gags are what makes it easier to troll through.

Trouble 103 – I’ll Become Idol

Run goes and becomes a celebrity in the episode, although initially to get Rito’s affections, but in the end she realises she likes it. Another average chapter, it’s ok to read once but that’s it.

Trouble 104 – Siblings

The chapter showcases the sibling love between Rito and Mikan. Mikan gets sick and Rito takes care of her, and does all the chores, a good chapter to read, and a little bit sentimental.

Mikan teases that they are not blood-related but then says that it was a joke. Funny how Lala’s cooking always suck, and this time, it is Zastin and his associates who gets the short end of the stick.

Trouble 105 – Wonderful Love

Lala and Haruna swap bodies so they can catch the stalker that is stalking Haruna. Oshizu is one of the major characters in the chapter, and it’s great. I had a bit of fun reading this chapter, and Oshizu has some powerful psychic abilities.

Trouble 106 – You Are the Lovely Cinderella

Rito changes back into Riko for the sake of his friend, Saruyama who has fallen in love, man, this just creates all sorts of weird demented thoughts… As bad as that sounds, it’s not a bad chapter.

Omake – Marron’s Day

Basically, it is a two-page summary of a typical day of Haruna’s dog, Maron. Not particularly interesting, since it’s only two pages, nothing can really happen, Maron does have a couple of thoughts that are the polar opposite of what Haruna is saying, so that was amusing.

Overall

Not a super duper volume, but it does include the conclusion to the Trouble Quest arc, all the other stories are, in a word, ‘meh’.
