To Love-Ru Vol. 13

VOL. 13 – THE NIGHT OF THE FESTIVAL
Trouble 107 – Tick Tock Tick Tock, The Sound of Love

This chapter focuses on the rising love of Rito by Kotegawa. Unwillingly, she has fallen for Rito as well! Which is quite ironic since Rito does all these shameless things that she hates (although he does them accidentally). It is a nice chapter, with a lot of comedic moments, so it isn’t really boring for one moment.

Trouble 108 – The Twin Escape

Nana and Momo runs away from home! Following Lala’s footsteps and going to stay on Earth. Both of them have some special powers in additional to the superhuman strength, Nana can communicate with animals and Momo with plants, that makes them really powerful as they can summon anything with their phone-like gadget. They easily beat Zastin, poor Zastin, he is really reduced back into a weak character now…

Trouble 109 – What I See Through the Lens Is…

The focus of this story is every guy’s dream (at least in one point in their life), glasses that can see through clothing! Rito accidentally puts them on and cannot get them off again, a lot of fan service (but not too much), and very funny, especially the ending, Ren is really reduced to just a very very minor side character good for only gags, such a shame. Although the plot has been well used, it was a fun chapter to read.

Trouble 110 – The Night of the Festival

Yami and Rito are the focus of the three-part story arc that begins with this chapter. It is interesting at the start and very funny, with Rito seemingly finally better than Yami at something! Even though it’s only festival/carnival games, Yami still gets annoyed, and the event that follows is pretty funny.

The ending is pretty mysterious, with Rito being attacked by someone using invisible wires, until Yami saves him. It promises the next chapter to have a battle between Yami and this mysterious attacker, very interesting chapter.

Trouble 111 – Under the Fireworks

The mysterious assassin’s name is revealed to be Lanjra, a person who uses wires as his weapon. In this chapter, seemingly Yami is no match for him, but I think it would be safe to assume that if she wasn't protecting Rito that she would defeat him easily.

Yami gets into a very “compromising” position, made even worse a few frames later by Rito, hilarious. I am surprised she didn't end up killing Rito when this was over. The final pages show that this is another scheme by the prospective fiancĂ© Lacospo, man, he never gives up. We actually had some absence from outer space threats for a while, so it’s nice to finally see another alien that threatens the relationship between Lala and Rito.

Trouble 112 – The Festival Is Still…

The ending chapter, Yami deliberately let herself get caught so she can find out the position of the attacker and defeat him, very easily it seems, she is really good… The chapter is interesting and good, always awesome to see the character being super powerful, and we see that Yami is starting to warm up to Rito.

If I remember correctly, I think this is the last episode that Lacospo appears in, and thus the last chapter where there is a prospective fiancé threat, still, I think this is a great story arc.

Trouble 113 – Beach Girls

A fairly pointless chapter, but the things that happen in here are quite funny. Rito just gets smashed again and again. Chapter ends with an appearance of this weird looking watermelon monster…

Trouble 114 – Watermelon Panic!

Another pointless chapter, continuing on from the previous chapter, the whole story revolves around the rampaging watermelon monster.

It presents a threat, and Saruyama is quickly put out of action (even though he was running away), Ren gets subdued just as quickly and just as Rito was going to get hit, Yami saves the day. The way she does it is quite funny, but a pretty poor chapter in terms of story, it’s less interesting than usual.

Trouble 115 – Exercise Elegy

I think this is an average chapter, not great, but not as pointless as the preceding two chapters. Still, it’s pretty pointless, with Risa asking everyone how they keep fit. A few good bits, but that’s about all I can say about this.

Omake – The Legend of the Principal in Top Shape

Three pages of seeing the perverted Principal in action, and getting caught every time in the process, fairly amusing, not too bad.

Overall

The first couple of chapters were good and fun to read, but the latter ones were kinda pointless and boring. At times you might wonder to yourself why are you reading this, but at least it gets better, and it is still a lot of fun (and laughs to read). Also in this volume, at the beginning where it shows the main cast, sadly, Run’s picture is not larger than Ren’s (it used to be the other way around), cementing the fact that Run is going to be more prominent.
