Book Review: Midnight for Charlie Bone
Review: #837
Title: Midnight for Charlie Bone
Series: Charlie Bone - 1st book
Author: Jenny Nimmo
Comments: Charlie Bone was a normal kid until he finds out that he has a special gift, being come of the endowed. He is torn away from his average life to attend a boarding school, where there are others like him, each with their own unique powers. Charlie is an inquisitive boy with a natural incline towards good and there he uncovers an interesting conspiracy. There are various subplots wrapped into the novel but only some are resolved by the end. Despite this, the story is engaging. All the characters introduced are likable, even the antagonists. The various supporting characters are charming and each has such a unique personality that you can’t help but hope that we get to find out more about them. The tension that builds towards the end was handled well. You never know whether Charlie’s plans will go awry due to some unforeseen circumstances and while the actual ending was somewhat different in tone (being a lot more dark), it was a satisfying conclusion.
