Pete's Dragon (2016)
Pete's Dragon is a live action remake of the 1977 animated film. In it, Pete was involved in a car crash near a rural town when he was young and tragically lost his parents. The crash was within the forest and a green dragon discovers him. The two bond together, naming the dragon Elliot after a picture book and live in the forest. Fast forward a few years, due to the logging of trees, the town residents discover Pete and are surprised that he managed to survive apparently on his own for so long. Things quickly escalate from there when an over ambitious (and thus ends up being arrogant and unlikable) town resident sights the dragon and goes ahead to hunt it, hoping to strike it rich and famous. The plot gets pretty predictable during the whole film. The natural heavy reliance on CGI for the dragon really distracts you since the quality isn't that great. The dragon looks really fake, even though on close ups, the fur isn't too bad. It is a small scale story, preferring to focus more on Pete, and his bond with Elliot but because of this, nothing massive truly happens. Despite this, the charm of Pete and Elliot manages to carry you through the film.
