Title: Midnight

Comments: Skulduggery and Valkyrie continues to hunt down Abyssinia and her gang but a new antagonist rises up to take most of their attention. The novel is addictive right from the very beginning and while, when you finish and take a step back to take a look from a distance, it wasn’t a massive journey, it was fun and entertaining. The quips between Skulduggery and Valkyrie remain funny, even though they spend a big chunk of their novel split up, because they each have confidence in their abilities, it doesn’t break the pacing. Omen was always an odd character, weak and lacking in power, yet he still has his own role to play but feels very much like an extra. Valkyrie’s sister Alice becomes a bigger part and the novel retreads the same plot point of Valkyrie’s life interfering and endangering her family’s. While it is a worthwhile pursuit, because it had already been covered before, you’d hope that the author won’t spend much more time on it in future installments. The finale was exciting as the journey led up to that point. The protagonists were in an extremely tight spot, almost impossible to win. The way they did win however was a bit of a dud moment, causing it become anti-climactic. There’s a fair bit of foreshadowing since one group’s perspective were shown but never intertwined with the main cast, thus we still don’t know why they are relevant. Overall, an enjoyable sequel and it makes you thirst for more.
